Aims and objectives:

• CHEC commenced work in 2008 on the Commonwealth Fisheries Programme (www. commonwealthfisheries.org). A pamphlet was also circulated at CHOGM entitled A Commonwealth Fisheries Policy: A Call to Action to Secure Sustainability for Livelihood, Food and Biodiversity. The recommendations seem to have been reflected in both the CHOGM Communiqué and the Perth Declaration on Food Security Principles

• Projects in East Africa, with the support of the Commonwealth Foundation, have been developed concerning training in gender mainstreaming in integrated water resources management. To follow up on this, at the end of 2011 CHEC received a Commonwealth Foundation Special Grant for Women as Agents of Change for a workshop entitled Capacity Building in Gender Mainstreaming in Water Resource Management

Recent publications:

CHEC regularly publishes Human Ecology, Journal of the Commonwealth Ecology Council. Issue number 24 was available at CHOGM. It also regularly produces CHEC Points.
