Aims and objectives:

CEMCA was established as a centre to encourage, develop and foster the exchange and sharing of educational media techniques and resources, with a focus on open and distance learning. Over the years, in step with rapidly changing advances in educational technology, CEMCA widened its scope to embrace emerging educational technology formats, even while broadening the scope of education itself to cover formal, non-formal and lifelong education, and extending it to all levels of open and distance learning. Currently, CEMCA has initiatives in two sectors: education and livelihoods, and health. Promoting appropriate and low-cost technology options underpin all CEMCA interventions in the Commonwealth Asia region.

Main activities:

• Developing and supporting the growth of community radio, and promoting content exchange and web radio

• Building capacity for OER-based elearning, and improving of quality of open and distance learning (ODL) and OER

Future plans involve developing a pedagogical model for open school and implementing new industry- linked courses. CEMCA also plans to create models for sustainable community media and empower women in media literacy, health and leadership.
